The Opportunities Provided By Entrepreneurship

In order for the people of South Africa to have access to the opportunities that can change the lives of both themselves and the next generation, they need to become part of a thriving job market. It is a simple fact that the established businesses that are active in South Africa cannot provide a pool of jobs that will allow both school leavers and others to enter the formal job market. For this reason entrepreneurship offers the hope of a better life for many in South Africa.

There are already examples of entrepreneurship around South Africa where private individuals have used their talents and drive to provide themselves and their families with the resources that they need to survive. The entrepreneurial skills demonstrated by these enterprising business owners displays on a daily basis that entrepreneurship holds the key to both individual success and the growth of the country’s economy.

There are a variety of skilled and semi-skilled workers in South Africa who have taken advantage of the new opportunities that have been presented by the changing patterns of ownership that have characterised South African society over the past few decades. Motor vehicles are today available to a larger number of people than has traditionally been the case. This is due to the increasing numbers of used vehicles for sale and an increase in affluence amongst certain sectors of South Africa society. Also, a large informal market has arisen to service the mechanical requirements of these motor vehicles. The prevalence of raw entrepreneurship in this informal sector of the economy is cause for hope.

What is now required is the formalisation of opportunities for entrepreneurship. Both private enterprise and governmental agencies need to seize the opportunity to provide educational and mentoring services to the growing number of people in South Africa who are committed to making entrepreneurship a way of life. The increasing opportunities available due to new technologies such as cellular telephony are the perfect foundation to establish a culture of entrepreneurship amongst South Africa’s youth.
